Ok first things first. The show.
Dave is always a showman. Having briefly known him and worked with him before I encountered Sasquatch, it never would have occured to me that he could be that kind of personality. But thinking more on it, I can understand the transformation. There are certain stimuly that bring out another contradictory part of me too. So Dave and Sasquatch being so different is no longer a shock.
Sasquatch is always fueled by the gravity of the event he is playing. At least that's what I've noticed. Shows that are their 1st time back from tour, or his last appearence before a show are always more energetic and exiting. So when I found out that it was Sasquatches first time back to the Middle East Cafe I had to go. Had to. So I posted it on my private friends site, and said be there.
Excuses popped up. It's a drive. I don't know where it is. Parking. He's not opening. Blahblahblah. I went anyways. My buddy bailed last minute but he had seen them last night anyways.
So I drove alone, and lost to Cambridge. Found a Parking place and walked in.
Middle East did not impress me. Maybe for you locals it's great on a busy night but I was there and it was dead. Said hi to Custom who still doesn't really recognize me, waved to Natalie (would take her the second I was asked), grabbed a beer and waited.
The notes ring out and Sasquatch turns to the crowd and it begins. The pretty boy in the front, who everyone was giving looks at, shows his true colors. Wailing the words along with The King Sickalbilly and livin it up.
But Dave is restrained tonight. He is biting back his mind, hell he didn't even light a cigarette in protest to hippy law. Is he still The King? Undeniably. Is it cuz the Manager is watching? Fuck no. Anyone who knows the story knows his buddy went to bat to get him a gig there. So outta respect to that effort he's not gonna spit on it. I can understand and appreciate it.
"I got 2 songs left.....yay."
Fuck that we scream.
"It's not my show dude"
Seeing me he poors a lil beer on the floor. Hell if I know why. I yawn not impressed. So he throws the beer at me.
My 1st reaction is: How dare he miss?
After the show he apologizes asking if he got me wet. I tell him if he ever misses again I'm buying him a beer to try again.
So I leave. Honestly it wasn't worth the drive to see him as an opening act. Not his fault just being practical. He deserves the main floor. Anything less is like a lion in a cage. Not the same experience.
So a lil too drunk to drive, I drive home. And post drunkenly the last post. Sorry for the wait but ......you should have been at the show.
