Plex vs Jellyfin

I've used plex for more than a decade as one of the early Linux adopters (anyone remember xbmc?). I like to support projects that I like and with plex I bought a lifetime pass some years ago. Every project is not without it's issues and over the years there has been some good and bad releases (and features), but usually they get ironed out and things go back to "working" state again. Over the past few years (not sure on the exact time frame) I've noticed that plex will sometimes be unable to contact either of my plex servers (I have two, one on the lan and one in a cloud provider) for days at a time. Lately (last few months) I've noticed this a LOT more, enough to the point where yesterday I decided to try mucking about with various settings to see if I can find a solution. I didn't find a solution and one of the issues I uncovered is that regardless of the settings, plex overrides ssl with it's own cert (that no modern browser will accept) which got me thinking about how little control I have over it. So I started looking at alternative media servers and stumbled on Jellyfin. Not sure how I missed its existence (!?), but Jellyfin takes me back to having a media server without all the extra baggage (which I have no use for). It's only been one day, but I can already see the potential of Jellyfin and will continue to evaluate it (along side my existing plex installs).
