If I want a fucking tablet user interface then I'll use a fucking tablet!

This rant is about Gnome 3.x and Windows 8.

I've masked Gnome 3.x from being installed on my desktop and laptop. I can't stand the new interface and am sticking with Gnome 2.32 for now.

Then I see that Windows 8 is even worse than Gnome 3.x. My favorite part is that applications don't actually close, rather they just go to the background (like a smartphone). <sarcasm>That's fucking brilliant since windows has a long history of memory leaks! I can't wait to count computer uptime in hours rather than days!</sarcasm>

I tried out KDE 4.7 (I was a KDE user in the 3.x days) but still don't like 4.x. It feels very sluggish compared to Gnome 2.x, and the look is too similar to windows.

There is a growing trend among operating systems and windowing environments: a move towards event-driven, nearly-stateless, one-task-at-a-time, resource inefficient, "pretty" interfaces.

These new UIs are useless to ME and are absolutely useless in a multi-monitor setup (I have three monitors on my desktop). I don't need "protection" from the software to the point that the interface keeps me from doing any customization and, more importantly, "retards" my ability to get work done.

Simply put: tablet oriented interfaces only belong on tablets and smartphones, period.

I think I'll check out the Enlightenment DR17 repository (DR17 will hopefully be released in the next couple of months - hell it's only been in development for 10 years...) Hopefully E17 is a worthy replacement for Gnome 2.32!
