After last quarter of having a class the was exclusively programming in Windows and trying to get Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate to work correctly in a virtual machine on my Gentoo Linux desktop I decided maybe I should think about doing something else before Fall quarter starts since 2 of my 3 classes will be Windows programming.
As a Computer Science student I get access to some free MS software. For example I'm allowed one free piece of software from each category on the MS student site. They don't offer Windows 7 Ultimate, but they do offer Windows 7 Professional. They also offer Windows Server 2008 R2 (Standard & Enterprise from the same key). So after a few weeks of thinking about it, I decided my Linux needs are such that I COULD do everything in a Linux VM and run Windows as the host OS and since I'm only allowed one copy from each category...
I installed Windows Server 2008 R2 (64-bit) on the desktop. This seemed to make the most since as the desktop has 12GB of RAM and I want to be able to remote desktop from multiple locations, possible at the same time. I am in the process of setting up a couple of VMs (two of them Linux), but with the last week or so being so busy/shitty I haven't finished setting them up.
I installed Windows 7 Professional (64-bit) on the laptop. I've actually been using it more than the desktop as gaming on the desktop with 3 monitors is troublesome in a few games (the mouse sometimes leaves the game to one of the other monitors).
Oh and I still have my addiction to Star Trek Online. If anyone here plays it feel free to say hi. My main character is "Rush" (Vice Admiral) and my account name is the same as here. I also have a couple of lower rank characters that I only play when I'm bored with my main account (one is a KDF Klingon named Mek).
