My wireless router died today. It is currently laying in the middle of the floor until I get a chance to take the antennas and stuff off of it.
I came home from lunch and there was no internets! Looked at the cable modem, all the lights were on, then looked at the router and NO lights were on. Oh shit! Took me about 20 minutes to dig out all shit out of the way so I could get to the surge protector and unplug it. I tried plugging it in on a different power outlet but nothing. Not even a quick flash. Just dead. Well the thing was pretty old (probably from 2003 or so). I wasn't using the wireless functionality, just the WAN/LAN part. Can't complain too much since it had a good run!
Well I went digging through all my boxes of computer parts and found a wireless router from 2007 or so. I set it up and was back online in about an hour. I noticed that it supported 802.11n which my wireless AP only did g. So I unplugged my AP and enabled the wireless on the "new" router. Unfortunately my laptop kept disconnecting randomly. So I looked online and found a firmware update from 12/2010. Flashed that, restored settings and volia! no more disconnects on the laptop.
So I guess I'll stick with this for now. I don't really want to fork out any moola for a brand new router since we are moving next month and need to save pennies. Plus this router is a major upgrade from what I was using...
Oh and WTF was with the whole SG being down? I saw something on FB about rackspace being a bunch of fucksticks but nothing more.
