I was reading about my zodiac sign today in a bookstore (I love astrology!)... I'm every bit an Aquarius: idealistic, unconventional, free spirited, truth-seeking, eccentric, humanitarian, open-minded, loyal, progressive, unpredictable, detached... and even better, I'm ruled by the planet Uranus, yes! haha. I still don't understand what being "ruled" by a planet means exactly... whatever

SPOILERS! (Click to view)
I saw it happen. Ten pounds lost in ten minutes standing with the syringe in one hand holding his pants up with the other, his abdicated flesh burning in a cold yellow halo, there in the New York hotel room... night table litter of candy boxes, cigarette butts cascading out of three ashtrays, mosaic of sleepless nights and sudden food needs of the kicking addict nursing his baby flesh...
~ Naked Lunch

The moment I started reading William S. Burroughs, my heart skipped a beat. His words are frenetic and burning with the pulse of passion, enough to make me drop everything so I can devour every page, flame by flame, my eyes swollen with hunger. Nothing beats a damn good book.

Today during my lunch break at work, I wandered around downtown and stumbled upon the most breath-taking art gallery I've seen in a long time.

::TIM CANTOR::

His paintings literally sweep me away. Every painting unleashes its own magnetic story, seemingly pulsating with a surreal energy and metallic vibrance. Here's some of his work, and they're even accompanied by his original poetry - which makes Cantor even more amazing! (You'd really have to see his paintings in person - seeing them on the web really doesn't do them justice in the slightest bit):

Duality of Love

SPOILERS! (Click to view)
His frightful appearance
hid the soft mind of innocence
That only she had the strength to find

Mr. Magnanimous

SPOILERS! (Click to view)
We walked the streets
In New Orleans

I looked down this alley in light of midnight
Or so the clock above flaunted eternally
And birthed by fear from darkly sight
Appeared a ghost in gloom
And vile fright
Amid the shadows and shade
He moved this way
With hands like claws
He reached in greed
I thought he sought for simple need

Yet with these hands like claws
In lieu of want
He offered a prize
In fire and white
And whispered twice

This is for you
To give to your wife

Jupiter

SPOILERS! (Click to view)
A place exists where amity exists
A place nicked in script of squinted eyes through mist
A place in books of old minds met forth in old thought
Of old minds in romance and old minds make believe

The place begins on page one
In a city a town deep hidden unknown
A place of past and a future intermixed of watery vast and serpentine vine
Herein devoid of time

Handwritten in bold and black and above it all
Reigns Jupiter
King of protection
Sentinel of the Sky, of Rain, of Thunder and Lightning
Our Guardian Angel
In this Gothic fable

Of literature and mythology in a broad breadth of reality
Of graying works of amnesty fetching the hand of ideality
This place exists
If not in sight nor neither veracity
A place exists where peace of mind is inevitable

For there is nothing left to fear

Invisible Thought

SPOILERS! (Click to view)
I spoke with this old lady last year, very old,
eighty or ninety,
Or so.
Maybe a hundred.

She told me how she had seen the world in a different way,
In a different light, in a different state.
She visited the places that no one else had ever seen,
That no one else had ever known
She spoke of a clouded sky that held an animated sun
And a key to forever youth

Crazy old lady...

As the days passed, months, and a year,
Whispers of her words possessed my every moment.
She planted a vision in my thoughts that made me wonder
That made me want.
And so I visited her once more.
I asked if she had been to that place yet again.
And she tapped my hand and clenched my wrist as I felt her eyes sympathize
for my blind ignorance.
She went on to tell me how she had been going there everyday since her childhood.
And she was going there again,
Now...

Then she closed her eyes.

So now I see,
This crazy old lady found the brilliance we all can only hope to discover
And only hope to understand
For as we define insanity, we often close our own eyes to a life beyond rational thought,
And miss out on an entire world that lives unknown...
Inside.

Eminence

SPOILERS! (Click to view)
The worlds sky fades to dark and the dark
Comes slower than it cries and the tears
Fall slower than it lives and the world
Lives slower than it grows
For it grows
Before our very own eyes

Around the corner of each day
Comes the beginning of another innovative way
I fear life will pass me by on this rapid rise ahead of its time
And as the intimidation of evolution swells
The ease of knowledge tells
That this is all
Tied to the past
And it lasts
Like the brown eyes of an ancestor
That gave sight in an ancient life
That I continue to stare at today
As I look at my beautiful wife

What we see
What we hear
And all that we know
Is an effect of times before
Times of another turned page
Times of this present stage

This world is everlasting

Of a timeless age

Another Silent Age

SPOILERS! (Click to view)
A life secluded lives a life disheartening
Looking out the window to a world in motion
A world passing by
On display

Then again,
The core of seclusion may often hold the means to a selected tomorrow...
For with a life secluded lives a life of intention
And a rising understanding for the opportunities of freedom

So while the wings are ripening for a world waiting

The ones behind the walls remain the purest of creatures

The colors, the textures, the symbolism... seeing that gallery made my entire day. I couldn't stop smiling during the last couple hours of work.

Art does that to me. It makes me lose my breath. My heart flutters in sheer delight. I grin from ear to ear in the presence of such beauty. There's nothing more satisfying to me than a painting that has the ability to explode my insides into a happy warmth... literally giving me goosebumps of orgasmic proportions.

Art makes my heart pump. Art makes my heart bleed. Art cracks me open and spills me out. Art accelerates me to new heights. Art fills me so completely.

It's one of the reasons I get up in the morning.

Love dies, body dies, the mind
keeps groping blind
half hearted full of lust

fred:
This was a good time to read your journal stoned.
The painting made me appreciate the poetry a lot more. His painting are tripped out too. In this case it's the inspiration that's more important than the technique, even that's good too.

Art is what makes it all worthwhile.
Otherwise we'd just be like termites struggling for food supply.
See, even though we like animals. They're actually pretty dumb.
If you show a squirell a painting he just looks for a nut or something, but if you a show a stoned hippy a painting they go, "wow... dude".
