Occasionally I find out that people have had tattoos based on my artwork. This is extremely flattering but also really strange for me, seeing my drawings interpreted by another artist in an entirely permanent medium.
When I was at C2E2 in Chacago a few months ago, a guy came up to me and asked if I would draw Batman on his arm, so that he could immediately go and get it tattooed. Flustered, I thanked him but said that there was no way I could do that - if I drew it on his arm with marker and made a mistake, what was I supposed to do, lick my thumb and wipe it off?
I eventually relented and compromised by drawing Batman on a piece of paper for him. As I was drawing it I was terrified, knowing that it would soon be branded on him forever.
Sure enough, hours later he returned with his new arm decoration.
(This might be petty of me to say, but I'm not thrilled with the adaptation. He seemed very happy though and that's what's important!)
