I picked the colors for my house yesterday. Carpet, tile, cabinets, etc. 2.5 hours and $5400 later I drove to Home Depot to check out a hunch and left with the satisfaction of knowing that the water softener that the builder was going to charge $2200 for can be had for $799 at HD. So I guess I saved $1400 on installation?

You are smart to check around on prices. I have a horrible habit of being too lazy to compare prices. I just go with the first one I come across. I guess this is why I am moving back home...broke.
