Remembering a great man,

My Grandfather passed away at 4 pm on the 21st of this month. He lived a long life that was very difficult, but showed great love to those that were close to him. He was an orphan, who served military duty, married a wonderful woman, and raised 3 girls and 1 boy, who gave birth to six grandchildren, that loved him greatly.

He was a salesman, a landscaper, and a superintendant. He was handy at all forms of house and building maintenance, carpentry, and was always willing to help anyone in need, with asking little in return. Even close to the end of his life he was watching over people that could not get around so easy. He was hard of hearing, but would always smile and nod, if he could not understand what you were saying, so you would know he was happy for the company. He loved to fish, and often took people fishing that could not go by themselves. I will miss the small coolers of frozen fish he would be handing me whenever I visited. He loved my cooking, and tried to be a chef from his own small kitchen. If you were to visit he would always be offering to prepare up some eats, and would talk on end about the unique recipes he would concoct.

To sum up his existence he would give you his jacket if you were cold, take you to school if you had no ride, and if you were in true need for anything he would be on the case of finding support from outside sources. He was not a greedy man, but a hard worker. I know his only regret in life was probably that he did not make more of a difference in the world, but that comes from someone who gives freely of themselves, and finds reward only in impact it makes in the lives of those around him.

He goes to another place where his body will be whole, he passed away at peace, with the love of his family supporting him. He will be missed by all, but especially by his family he left behind. I miss him tonight, and I will for quite a while. I love you grandpa. Thank you for all you did.
