i don't get it....

The first sentence is written from a first-person perspective and the rest of it is written as a narrative. Change the last part of the first sentence to "whispering things they were too afraid to say."

Second sentence needs to be "It is as if his..."

Remove the "own" before the "home."

Remember, that "dear" is being used to signify a person at the end of a sentence so it has to be capitalized and it should be written as "Good night, Dear."

Let me do a little edit and show how I think it should read:

The house creaked and moaned, whispering things they were too afraid to say. James knew something had not been right for the past month. It is as if his wife of 15 years had suddenly become widowed. James is a ghost in his home. His reflection is the same, his clothes unchanged.

At night when he lies next to Patricia, he feels dead inside. He thinks of times when they couldnt wait to cuddle up next to each other, playful times of the past. Now he only has an unemotional "Good night" to keep him warm. She stopped saying "I love you" long ago.

Deep in his mind, he knew what was happening. Patricia is having an affair.


At least that's my 1 3/4 cents.
