a strep antigen test is REALLY FAST to do. just takes a few minutes in the doc's office. doesn't cost much either... wonder why you didn't get one. at the very least the doc should've swabbed your throat.
also, strep will give you a fever not to mention a sore throat with little white strep colonies growing on your tonsils. -without the usual flu-like symptoms of runny nose and cough.
the flu is just like a really bad cold with some GI upset and achiness thrown in. your temp may be a bit elevated, but not like it can be with an actual bacterial infection like strep.
the two are not very similar in presentation at all...
the only common symptoms would be the achiness. you could have a mild fever with either, though a pronounced fever would be indicative of a bacterial rather than viral infection.
