Im getting a new car tomorrow. Im buying into the dept culture. Fortunately I dont have a credit card yet. From tomorrow onward I will be simultaneously building good credit and starting the cycle of dept that all Americans are born into. Hurray for me. And I dont yet have a job.
But I will go down to Borders tomorrow after I sign the papers and work on that.
Im getting a used 1999 Suburu Sport, Arrest me red. It is the newest car I have ever driven, the flashiest thing any member of my family owns, and will be the first car that I actually own. I am cosigning with my Mom. We got a phenomenal price. Apparently my parents have really good credit. I am determined to pay for as much of this car as I can, and burden them as little as possible. And also not destroy their credit.
While we were at the dealership, I wasnt overly excited about it; I was using my poker face. But emotions are starting to set in, and I really like it. I knew that I would like it, but I think I might love it. As much as I like it, it bothers me that I would like something trendy and geared towards a society that puts value in things that are flashy. But I came to it on my own terms, not because I thought it would enhance my status.
So I let me Dad drive, we actually have the car overnight. They trust us with it. So Dad got into it and immediately drives it into the curb, and scraped it. I, the young adult drive it for the night and have no problems, my Father (the responsible parent) drives it into the curb. And he almost hit a skunk. I was sort of tempted to take it away from him and not let him drive my car. MY car. \/grin\/ Thats so cool. MY car.
But its a great car, and I love it. And Im wicked happy!
