Ever have the feeling like mainstream society is starting to find all the 'geeky stuff' interesting. I remember when X men came out. It was like vindication. Like, ha now those things that I always thought were cool are being recognized for what they are! Truly awesome. And you normal people are all 28 steps behind.
One of my earliest child hood memories involves the X men. A couple of the other outcast kids all really liked them, and they got me into it as well. They were also the group that got me hooked on RPGs. Quite frankly I am the person that I am today because of Will Park, Gabe Traber, Adam Lordan, and Sean Kelloway.
So first X men and then LOTR its like my childhood is being put up on the big screen. And Matrix was a geeks paradise, although I liked the first one a lot more than the second. Not to say I think that Reloaded is a bad movie, it just is slipping in my mind.
What next? Will we be journeying through Neverwinter, Sigil, and the future Seattle? Will the next mainstream movies be played out in the worlds of AD&D, Shadowrun, and Battletech? Ah, wait! If things follow my child hood, we should get AD&D next (something better than that crappy AD&D Movie that was already made, something more along the lines of Dragonheart), then Battletech, then Shadowrun, then Magic the Gathering and finally on to White Wolfs World of Darkness. Ops, they jumped the gun! Underworld here I come.
But is it a good thing to see mainstream society grab, chew and spit out those things that I hold dear? Can my hobbies survive being made mainstream? Will it help the franchises? Or hurt them? Only time will tell.
Wow. Im a geek. Ok, Im going to stop rambling now.
