Summation

I am glad of the great obligations
I imposed on myself. In my life
Many strange and material things have crowded together
Fragile wraiths that entangled me,
Categorical mineral hands,
An irrational wind that dismayed me,
Barbed kisses that scarred me, the hard reality
Of my brothers,
My implacable vow to keep watchful,
My penchant for lonelinessto keep to myself
In the frailty of my personal whims.
That is whywater on stonemy whole life has
Sung itself out between chance and austerity.

Pablo Neruda

This poem reminds me very much of my life, and the way in which I interact with myself. I seem to impose so many rules and judgements on my life, according to how others see me. And of course how I view myself. I have lived for the happiness and comfort of those around me, and tried so many times to rescue the damsel in distress, whether she liked it or not. I see in the lines of this poem the texture of my life and times. The relationships that I have had with my syblings and the relationships I have shared with friends and lovers. Life is a song and an adventure. I seem to be singing mine to please others, hoping in turn to be recognized and appreciated. But, of course so much of human kind are too caught up in their own egocentric 'stuff' to notice. (Myself included sometimes). Some are not. And those folks I really appreciate. I think in giving we get so much in return, that it compels us to give even more.
And so the wheel of my life turns. And I hope when this clay is put to rest, I will have given more than I have received, and will be remembered in days yet to be born.

Still spinning in my Orb
Holding fast to the promise of loves' sweet embrace.
Knowing, trusting, and seeing the as yet to be--
fashioning of my lifes' work,
and feeling the soft touch of true affection.
