I'm alive! I promise! And I made it safely back to THE BEST CITY OF ALL TIME well...the suburb of it...haha. I'm so glad to be back though, really.
But let's do a catch up shall we?
After we handed in the keys on the 30th, we had some time to kill. Corey wasn't feeling the best, but he was plugging along, going to school and resting as much as he could. Corey's mom and I met up with her long time friend that lived in the area (and had been an emergency contact in the area for Corey, should he need it). We had breakfast at this really interesting place called the Tower cafe. They're famous for their french toast...so I ordered it....but eh
it was way too crunchy on the outside for me, and molten liquid in the middle....it was so so
But the decorations of the place were great
(and I was trying to be discrete taking these)
After breakfast, we did a bunch of shopping.
We were a little worried that Astrid would go insane in the hotel, but I think he settled right in
(this is on top of the cupboards)
Everyone was in town by Thursday night for graduation on Friday (and by everyone, I mean: Both of Corey's sets of grandparents, his parents, his sister, and my father). We had dinner at a steakhouse (where for the first time in my life, my order was terribly messed up to the point where I had to send it back; wrong steak (I wanted filet mignon, not sirloin) and wrong potato), but everyone had a nice meal and we embarassed Corey by having the whole staff come congratulate him.
Friday was graduation. Corey had to be there a little earlier than the rest of us, but we all got there early anyways, to have good seats. Instead of playing music for the graduate procession, they drove one of the show cars in before them (which was kind of stupid since not a single student had worked on that car), and it was loud and stank, but you have to expect something like that from an automotive school right? They announced names and awards, and it was done. Corey got his diploma and book of all of his certifications.
And of course everyone wanted to take pictures with the graduate
We are all very proud of him though!
Early Saturday morning, we finished loading a few bags and people into vehicles (my dad also came down to drive my car back for me), and took off. We had to go kind of slow, because of the uhaul trailer, but at least the passes were clear
My stomach was unhappy for bits of the trip (and in the last few hours of it, I ended up getting Corey's stomach bug and needing to pull over to vomit along I-5), so I slept part of the way
Astrid was a good little traveler, but he reminded me of Hannibal Lecter as he rolled around and meowed in his carrier
We tried to let him out during one of our stops, but it was cold and he was kind of uninterested
.
After about 12 hours of driving, Corey was getting fidgety (even though we stopped at least once an hour for the dog to pee, and everyone else to stretch or pee too)
We made it back and dropped Astrid off at my parents' house by 11:30 pm (that's where he will be living until Corey and I can find a place of our own). By then, I was losing color and could barely stand from the nausea, so I spent most of Sunday in bed. I back to healthy (still taking it a bit easy) and we are settling in nicely at Corey's parents', where there is already the comfort of the holiday season and I have never loved the rain and cozy fires so much! My dad has got me working already, and I'm applying for a PO box.
I hope everyone had a less hectic weekend than I did and are well into a good week.
I'm so damn happy to be home!
