2014 has been, by far, the most eventful year of my life.
There was bad stuff. My mother died. We had to tap my not-very-big 401(k) to replace our roof and one side of our house to avoid losing our insurance. Nearly constant and expensive car issues. Major appliances failed and had to be replaced (although to be fair, they were all nearly 30 years old). We had health issues. Weeks after one dog died, our last dog got an infection that left her barely able to breathe, much less walk, and while we nursed her back to health it only lasted a few months before we lost her.
But at the end of the year I have a lot of great things to look back on. We have a new daughter-in-law. Our younger son has a new and better job. Both sons' significant others are wonderful. We were within a year of paying off our house anyway and after we sold mom's and paid off her mortgage company, we did just that. My photography has led to meeting lots of interesting people. I got a grown-up car. We have a new cat, for the first time in ages. We're starting to make plans to finally fix up the house the way we want to. We've seen a lot of live music and had a lot of great times with good friends.
And through it all I've been fortunate to have Teresa to laugh with, in good times and bad, to support me and to need me, and we're just getting started. 2015, you won't know what hit you.
