I haven't even shot my first set yet, but this is what I've been doing to prepare for my initial photoshoot:
1) study, study, study!
Consider your favorite SG photos, and think what makes them so appealing to you. Is it the posing, lighting, facial expressions? Also be sure to note what turns you off in a set.
2) This should be your bible. Take the time and read it...several times!
3) Quality over Quantity.
Since the Member Review queue is so long these days, it may be tempting to haul ass in getting something sent in. But really prepare yourself and make a gameplan; there's no point in turning in a rushed, subpar set.
4) Have a blast! Just be yourself and let your natural self shine through.
Hopefully that wasn't too generic.

xSo, I've never worn contacts in my life... but for my Halloween costume I have white out contacts. Not only did it take me FOREVER to get them in but it feels like there's an eyelash in my damn eye..... and I've had them in for like 2 hours now in hopes my eyes would get used to them....

I've been wearing contacts since I was 14. I have a really strong blink reflex and it took the doctor like twenty minutes to get my first pair in. I was able to take them out ok by myself, but when I had to put them in the next day, it seriously took THREE HOURS of on and off trying. Now it takes two seconds. 
I got used to the feeling of them in fairly quickly, but maybe they were thinner than the ones you have.
