So in order to embark upon an urban homesteading quest, one must do a lot of research, and hopefully get some homesteading mentorship. This past weekend, we had the pleasure of visiting some friends of ours that have an amazing farm in Northern California. For only having this land for two years, they have really accomplished a lot. Beautiful garden beds and lots of wonderful animal people to meet. I'll post some photos very soon.
We were blessed to leave with a whole bunch of lettuce, peas, kale, and oyster mushrooms that were all harvest fresh from their garden. I also brought home a huge bunch of calendula which I will be using to make a healing salve soon, once the flowers are dried out. We were also gifted some small seedlings of heirloom tomatoes, melons, beans, lavender, calendula, snap dragon and peas for our garden. So far we have about 100 sq feet in garden beds dug, and counting! I imagine there will be lots of digging in the dirt and planting tomorrow.
