Mungus in the Studio, Day 3 (Friday August 15, 2008)
Bass tracking! In the spirit of catching up, we're tracking the bass today. We got to the studio on time (though the rest of the guys arrived at my house as I was getting out of my shower and I had to yell out the window that I'd be right down), ate McDonald's breakfast, and started recording.

We tracked "Swing" first and altered a few things. It ended up being more complicated than I expected it to be and took a while. We followed it with "Get Some" which we did in one take with a few punch ins and a rewrite or two. Compared to "Swing", "Get Some" was a breeze. It is now 11:53.

2:24, back from lunch and we just recorded "Jade" (we knocked out "Longshot" before leaving). It took a couple of passes to get the chorus just right, but we nailed it. Next up, "Flame On".

3:14 and both "Flame On" and "The Song Formerly Known As Ponderous Groove" are done. We got "Flame On" in two takes, though we played through some things and discussed overall flow. We started "PG" at 2:55 and ran through it a few times with specific focus on a few parts. Up next, we're tackling "Move". On a non-music note: Michael was asleep in front of his drums. I grabbed my video camera and Duane sat down at the kit. I nodded and Duane started playing a loud and obnoxious line. Michael woke up like we had quietly said his name, or, to quote Adam (as you'll hear on the video when I have time to upload it), "Awww! He wakes up like a kitten!"

3:52 and we're rewriting some of the drums for "Move", doing a little decluttering. Other than that, we aren't changing much. Now it's 4:50 and we've played it a few times, taken time off, told stories, laughed, and played it a few more times. We're listening to the drum track to see if there's anything that needs adjustment or re-recording.

It's now 5:36 and I just finished tracking the bass for "Move". A couple of takes with my redoing the fast sections and we were done. Now we're listening to one of the other songs not on our Top Ten (the remaining two are "Remora" and "Medusa" so you'll just have to wonder). Sadly we're going to have to ax either "Remora" or "Medusa" in order to fit this mystery tune. The car ride home should be interesting.

Morbid Angel's "God of Emptiness". This one was immortalized by Beavis & Butthead. Butthead's reaction to the singer: "Whoa. Was that a bear?"
"Garbage Day!" from Silent Night, Deadly Night 2. We kept watching this and laughing. We repeated it all day, in conversation and in song as well.
"This... Is... Garbage Day!!!" One of the many "funnier than it should be" remixes/send-ups of the above Silent Night, Deadly Night 2 sequence. Also, like the above video, it gets funnier the more you watch it, and the more tired you are.
