I work 40 hrs a week at a good job and make good money.
My other half works 30-40 hours a week and makes good money.
I just found out the average house hold income in San Francisco is $94,000 a year.
I thought was pretty ridiculous. Then I was looking for a new place to live. And there are places with below market rentals, set for people make lower level incomes. If you make less the $47,000 a year for a two person house hold you qualify for this property.
So I looked at what qualifies for low income housing, and even section 8.
How the heck do two people working full time, qualify for housing assistance? I guess it makes sense since we both work in San Francisco and can't afford to live there.
This is where I come into a moral dilemma. Does it make me a bad person to take the public assistance? I guess I qualify as getting by currently. But that is trying to balance which bills to pay, and which can I put off for a month. I guess I am torn because I feel like working full time and making good money shouldn't need help. It feels like I would be contributing to the countries economic problems. But there is no reason that a one bed room apartment should be $1,500 (low end) up to $4,300+... There is no reason for rent to be that high other then some people who work in the city can afford it.
I don't know if its the stigma of being poor growing up. Of going to the food pantry on the weekends to have food for the week. But part of me feels wrong even thinking about taking public assistance.
But I think it shows how broken our economy is that $45,250 qualifies for section 8 housing vouchers....

Anyone else having sticker shock on how much money people need to make to survive?
It feels like the only way to survive with a city job is to live far enough away so the costs of living drop. But then the costs of the commute, and then needing a car, insurance etc drives it all back up. It's funny I can barely afford to live where I do. I can't save the money to get what I need to move away from the city to save money...
But out of the blue I *might* have a piece of property in the family that I might be able to rent to own... I will have more information in the weeks to come about that.
Thanks for listening or even reading...

*hugs*
Its so expensive to live in London too and I can't really afford it but I will be miserable if I live anywhere else. Blah!
It's called I moved back in with my mom. I imagine this would be even less preferable for a couple.
