The Echo has closed.......
When I moved here in 1996 the point was here. Coming from The thriving indie scene that Pittsburgh had , Atlanta was pitifull. I can count on 2 hands the number of times that a quality indie act on touch and go, 1/4 stick, discord, cargo, trance syndicate, matador, or any number of other good labels came here. There is not enough promotion, not enough support, and not enough interest. Someone has to go out to the show and pay. Man or Astroman, and the Toasters don't count. So I remember getting word that the Point was closing. One of the great true Atlanta independent landmarks. A F**king clothing store is there now.
On a semi related issue. The issue at hand here The city has it's rampage to monopolize all of the taxes, DUI's , and revenue to make their shitty Underground a success, They close all the best clubs in the city, and put all the pressure they can on the others... The 24 hour licenses are gone. The clubs that are left all close earlier. For me , I love a great electronic dj/producer just as much as a great indie act. There are now less internationals coming here because of time changes. The latest word is that of course the new spot Kevin's Alley of the underground is about to get their vote on an extension of hours from 4am to 6am. Thank the city of Atlanta for most of you aggravation. F**k the Underground.
