i was watching the national geographic channel last night. i am haunted by some images that i saw. it was a program on walruses. they showed a video clip where 30 walruses went inland from the beach, and found themselves on a bluff high above the the beach. in their desire to get back to the ocean, the leader decided to meander down a steep grass covered slope, started to slide and then fell off a 12 foot drop onto the beach. the rest of the pack couldn't see what happened to the leader and proceeeded to follow. 30 of them died.

its going to take some time to get over this form of population control.
