last night at work was pretty boring, nothing exciting happened at all.
just kinda sat in the office doing nothing. stared at the monitors all night, answered the phone maybe 5 times. couldnt sleep tho, i just am not able to fall asleep in a chair, i have a hard enough time sleeping in a bed.
got a chance to walk around in the er for a lil bit on my break, wasnt too busy from the looks of it. all in all, a quiet night. then i realized how much i actually have to do.
im resposible for all the electric locking doors in the hospital, i can control them all from where i am in the office. i have 3 phones to answer if they ring. 54 cameras spread out on 6 monitors. the gate to the doctors lot, the loading dock gate, the visitors gate... they all have switches in the office if i have to let someone in that i can manually control. 7 intercoms placed at doors and gates. a 2way radio system with at any given time with 15 radios on it for security officers and engineering has another 5 or so. i control the gates to the kitchens loading dock. i have a fire panel i have to keep an eye on for anything not normal. all the fire exit doors have alarms on them. all the doors for mother/baby, labor and delivery, and pediatric sections have double redundant alarm systems. so does the pediatric ER. and then the thought that i control all of that is mind boggeling that one person can do it alone.
but i do have some good news from work. The head boss for security came in today and asked if i was willing to be promoted to a new position that they have just made. Lead Security Officer. its basically one step below Shift supervisor. thats cool as hell, im officialy a boss begining next week i believe. so word, finally i might get a decent pay raise. the only problem or not problem, but detail that is bad is that it screws up the current hours i work now. i would still be on night shift during the week, but now i would supervisor on weekends from 10am till 8pm. and i have to work weekends. but then again its not like im not already there on saturdays and sundays. so thats not bad. the bad part is that i wont be nocturnal on weekends. omg ill have to actually be working with the sun up.
on that idea. and that means it will be busy at those hours. i took nights cuz i dont like to deal with the place being busy. but oh well. its a new job. so i told him id accept it. woo. this is actually a bigger deal then i probably realize right now. but i know its nothing i cant handle. its just one more step closer to permanent supervisor. and its also building my toolkit of security background that ive been doing for the past 5 years now. wow, 5 years. christ. lets see, 2 years active duty in the military with some Security Forces duty, 2 years as Lead Loss Prevention in a retail setting with over 75 convictions and arrests under my belt there, and one year in the private sector of security. my resume is gona be sweet.
that tacks on something new too, becoming promoted to lead officer. now i get to actually supervise and be over other guards. im not just a peon anymore. and that always looks good on a resume. all this past background should help me out in the future with getting better and better jobs. and better pay. thats a plus in my book.
ok now im babbeling.
so ill just sit here for a while and await the details of a possible visit to punkrockjuliette's house so i can annoy her while she works.
