I've been hearing a lot about the Prop in CA about the ban on gay marriage. My initila reaction was here we go again, but it occurs to me that the government of California is overstepping its authority. What right does any state have to regulate the free choices of consenting adults? The original reasons for controlling marriage have a basis in the now discarded science of eugenics. The government tried to ensure that unsuitable people would not marry and procreate.....the original targets were the retarded, ethnic groups of less than acceptable status, and anyone that was considered unfit. these rules date back to an unenlightened time in the 1890's , and have no real purpose today other than revenue enhancement and political motives.....want to get fundamentalists to vote? Roll out gay marriage and abortion rights.
My solution is this. Any pair of consenting adults who desire a compact of commitment, should be allowed and encouraged to have a legal standing by the rite of marriage. Period. Stop selling licenses, stop the thought police and meddling "Christians" and end this once and for all. Marriage defined as the union of two consenting adults in a binding agreement, with all the rights and responsibilities, regardless of orientation or gender. If a man with a couple years of college can figure this out, whats so tough?

PS I am a Christian, I believe that peace on earth, and love for our fellow man and doing unto others as you desire to have done unto you is pretty good way to guide your life. No current Christian church follows the words of Christ, just a collected 2 milleniums of rules and dogma written by men , not God.
