Well something happened at work today......
I work at a pizza place until next week, I can't wait to be done actually, but today I did something that made me proud. This customer called placed an order, right away I knew one of our special was similar to his order so I offered it to him, right away he agreed, couldn't have been easier than that.
So I proceded to make his order, he had said he'd be there in a few minutes to pick up. He showed up as I was making his donairs(if you don't know what they are just google it-greco donair), he looked at me over the counter, and right away he thanked me for offering him the special. I could tell he was enthusiastic and very sincere about it, which is something I don't often see there, most of the time our customers are just plain rude.
I asked him how much sauce he wanted as he watched me make them, he asked me to put plenty on.....That's when he mentioned he wasn't supposed to eat that stuff, going for an operation next week he said. I looked at him somewhat puzzled not wanting to ask thinking it might be private, as soon as that thought crossed my mind he said the doctor told him he was full of cancer, both lungs, and spreading. He said he told the doctor he didn't want to know ho long he had left, it didn't matter. As I gathered his order we had a small conversation abou it, about how things can change a life so quick, about how we just have to enjoy it while it lasts 'cause we never know what's gonna happen next. He was so accepting of it, he was upbeat,he was living every moment of it, if it ever happens to me that's how I want to be. My thoughts are with his family, if I could tell them anything it's the impression I got of him today, he's the best customer I ever had. He mentioned his wife and two sons, the oldest of which's girlfriend is expecting twins in December, he told them he might not be around by then. I sure as hell hope things go well for his family.
As he came to the other end of the counter he thanked me again for the deal, when he handed me the cash, I noticed how skinny he was from the cancer, it's unreal what it can do to a person phyisically. He smiled anyway, he was thankful, I think it made his day, he was just getting off work. It made my day knowing that at least that one customer walked out of the store happy, I'll probably never see him again, but I won't forget this day for the rest of my life.
