Have you read kerouac's "peices of the Dharma" it's his journals transcribed. lots of thoughts about buddhism, life, drugs etc. very beautiful. lots of poetry. I found it at the hamden library-surprise!

I dunno if you're already taped up and not reading this till after. when I was eighteen I had to have surgury for my TMJ problem [jaw joints misalighned/ bad juju, jaw locking and clicking, lots of headaches, physical therapy.....]. THis involved breaking my top and bottom jaws [with a big saw I guess, I was knocked out.] and then pinning them back with titanium pins that re still in there, and wiring my jaws shut for six weeks. I could sort of talk through a weird sort of ventrilogy but really, writing worked better.
SO, it sucked big time. but it was a Major learning experience/adventure. People thought I was retarded immediately after, because the swelling in my face took most of the six-eight weeks to go away, and I couldn't feel anything below my eyes for the same period. In the first week, clotted blood and mucous would drip out of my nose/mouth and I would have no idea. I just remember this 1o year old kid in a comic book store staring at me like I was the walking dead.
People in grocery stores would move their children away from me.
SOme strangers were super nice and helpful, but boy this was a study in human nature.
THe operation was a super success, and I'm really lucky to be 95% pain free now, a huge improvement, even nearly 10 years after.
THe whole experience gave me a new outlook on life.

Coffee idefinately tastes better free- Especially fricking esspresso drinks- now that I worked making them for like five years, I am so not paying some chump 5$ for a lousy latte. The worst part about having made so much f+cking esspress, is now I know how it's meant to taste, and it's actually pretty tough to get a legitimately good shot of esspresso.
SO I would be like one of those freak crank ciustomers I hated working there. THerefore, I just drink esspresso at home... from the stove top.... which I'm too lazy to fire up. SO back to the free coffee for me...

i dunno man... i visited mine and felt SOOOOO out of place. it hurt. it was like i was no longer a part of the community i was once a part of. some ppl recognised me, but i could tell the felt i was a failure. it sucked. anywhoo. enough of my ranting.

I'm on seven years now, no meat, two as vegan. I might have slipped if it were for pure dietary reasons, but I started reading about animal suffering, and it would be impossible for me to slide back now.
