FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK!!!!!!!

Merry Happy Ho Ho to me, I was just laid off at my job. I can't seem to win lately. I only started with this company a few weeks ago, but it was a huge improvement from my previous employer. For those of you who have no idea what I do......... I'm a heavy hauler driver (Heavy Equipment Operator by trade). I was working for an oil sands company here in Alberta, but with the plummeting cost of a barrel of oil almost all of the big oil companies have gone into cost savings mode, and are currently scrambling to find ways to save money.

Technically I haven't officially been laid off, but I have 3 weeks off for Xmas and they'll let me know after that, if it's official or not. About the only thing that could save my job is for the U.S gov to give the big 3 auto manufacturers their bailout package....... which should drive the price of oil back up.

What a fucked up situation! Let me break it down in point form:

- Tons of greedy U.S banks give out mortgages to people who shouldn't be eligible.
- Big Surprise....... people start defaulting and the banks start hemorrhaging debt.
- This causes banks all over the world to hemorrhage money and some even go tits up.
- This leads to a global recession
- With a recession in full swing people stop spending money.
- This leads to a reduction in many manufacturing industries, which causes job loss (especially 4 car manufactures, who already had there heads up there ass's too far to see this coming)
- With reduced spending and job uncertainty (and high fuel costs) people travel/drive less, so the price of oil plummets.
- This leads to more job losses (especially in the oil industry)
- Job losses in the oil industry will most likely lead to an increase in the price of oil, as well as the price of gas.

Things are really starting to look ugly for the near future. I'm actually very conflicted by all this. I actually hate the 3 North American car manufacturers and I firmly believe that they don't deserve a single cent of bailout money, but I really do hate to see so many people lose their jobs b/c of it (same goes for the banks).

Also I happen to be very well read and aware of the current crises with our environment, and I'm always looking for ways to make a contribution towards a better tomorrow........ but I work for a companies that are among the largest contributors of pollution on the planet. I often feel extremely guilty about this, and sometimes I think about changing careers, but if I leave someone will just take my spot and therefore all I've accomplished is giving up a good amount of income.

ARRRRRRG!

Wow...that sucks....mind you I live in a town where the three biggest industries have all closed down. Like in the passed eight months. So the recession thing had hit us before the actual recession came to town. Its rough but people make due. Im sure youll get on somewhere else.
