ok, so i've been wanting a tattoo for a while now. needing one, really. i've been feeling as though i'm ready to make some sort of statement. something permanent. i need ink.

two nights ago i finally fleshed the concept out. i'm going to use my spine as the left rule for a poem that will start at the top of my spine near the shoulder. where each line of prose would intersect with the spine, i'll ink the year it was done, in two digits. i'm going to write one line a year, and it's going to take as long as i want to finish. so i'll take a whole year to live life, and then write a single line that somehow emcompasses where i am in life, and where i'm headed. it might take more than a year to come up with the right line, but never less than a year. when i feel that i have finished the poem, i will have a completed work spanning decades of progress that will represent my spiritual journey through life. that's the ideological concept of it.

now the art, which i am equally excited about, focuses on the spine to create a border between the marked year and the line of prose. the right edge of my spinal column will have a solid black line. something like charcoal would look on rough paper. the spine will be white, and will fade to my flesh color about two thirds of the way towards the left side of my spine. this will leave the left side of my back wide open, the strength of my spine operating as a launch pad for any artistic design which might burst from the opposite line of prose.

i'm not sure what font i'd like to use for the words and numbers, but it will probably be simple. however, i am thinking of maybe inking the year in a different way each time. i want to give the vertebrae a very scratched up, beaten up, roughed up look. it'll make a sharp monochromatic contrast, and i might make the year look like it was just etched into the bone with a knife at funny angles or whatever. kind of symbolic for the way i just tumble through life looking for fun and living hard.

i think that's as much justice as i can do right now for the idea. i need to work on the words and find a good place to get inked in boston. or anywhere, really. i'll hit a road trip to anywhere in new england if it's worth it. i want this to be top notch work.

anyway, it's a ridiculously nice day out. i went for a walk down by fenway park, i avoided the uno's i work at, and ate outside on the "patio" at Thornton's, where my roommate chruce waits tables. usually just sundays, but he grabbed a saturday this weekend. so i did all this in a pair of jeans, t-shirt, and hat. it was actually mildly hot out. good shit. i hope everyone around here is enjoying it.

aficionado:
the first ten issues of the ongoing Deadpool series? which was written by Joe Kelly? oof. That's like the GOLDEN AGE of Deadpool (in my own opinion). I dug the ongoing & complex plot threads and Wade's struggle with becoming a hero when he knows deep in his heart that he's cold-blooded monster. Twas comical and deep at the same time. I've never really cared for other creative teams' take on the character ever since.
