Holy fucking shit! Man if you weren't in Springfield, VA on Sunday night, 5/7/06, you missed on fucking hell of a party!! As you know, Evergrey and Nevermore are on tour right now with a couple of really shitty bands. Well I am proud to say said shitty bands were not subject to the performance on Sunday. Evergrey and Nevermore GOT FULL HEADLINING SETS!!

Yes, we got 60 glorious minutes of Evergrey on stage. They slammed through a couple of their pre-Recreation albums and really tapped the vein and put a balls out performance once the bullshit with the guitarists wiring was taken care of, which took a song or two. When the Walls Come Down was performed live, as was A Touch of Blessing and a couple from the new one, as well as Recreation Day, and the classic cover I'm Sorry, but STILL IX-Nay on The Great Deciever, THE song I want them to play so bad live. But alas, this was their finest hour and I could have gone home happy without seeing Nevermore. And a guy even proposed to his girlfriend during Evergrey's set at the insistance of the band. There were a few "oh he's in for it now" type poke fun jokes, but it was all good.

Then slightly before Nevermore came out, I finally realized and saw the guy who runs Jaxx, Jay Nedry, who came out and did a little schpiel which he declared he signed a new lease for Jaxx for another 12 years. I am glad because I have only been here a few times, and I can truly say, with the exception of the bathrooms, this place fucking rules! I can also tell that if Jay is just in this for making money he has a very funny way of showing it, as it seems to me, he is totally in for the bands and had really high praise for all of the bands playing. I have to say that if half the fucking rejects who run concert facilities in this country, ARE YOU LISTENING HARPO"S MANAGEMENT!?!?!, ran a place as great as this, with as much enthusiasm, then maybe they could book the great shows that take place here. Oh yeah and this show sold out, just like the Morbid Angel show. Anyway, he also said that Nevermore's ailing Jim, flew in all the way from Seattle to play the show. Damn, that rules. And MetalHeads don't care about their own? Well we all wished him a happy birthday to boot later on.

So Nevermore finally arrived on stage. Warrell Dane and his cowboy hat and band in tow. I have only seen Nevermore once prior(the last tour with Opeth), and this time was much more open, and the band was in great form. Yes this means they kicked ass. Playing material from most of their semi large disco, our Dead Hearts rolled along to Poison Godmachine all the way to the Final Product. I really really went home happy after this. Pardon such a short quip, but this is coming from someone who doesn';t listen to the band on a regular basis, so I don't have much to say. I did really fucking enjoy the set, I wish they would have gotten to play more though, but still, totally awesome!

But before I close this particular blog, I need to talk about the openers real quick. Division played and sort of annoyed me this time. I think mainly now its because, I know their Christian and it drives me nuts or maybe its something in the singers voice, they just don't do it for me.

Anyway, the first band the played was Apothys. These guys were slightly misbooked, a Black/Death Metal band at a Prog show. That said, I was very happy to see them play anyway. If you get a chance to see em please do so. Apothys carries a kind of Blackened sense that most American bands, save Thy Infernal, Summon, Sauron, Goatwhore, and a few others, can really hope to touch. Apothys is fucking awesome, not just because they are, but because they have enough going all the way through to not be boring like most local and supporting openers are or do. I was really really entertained and had my neck sore after the end of their set. I also bought a CD and a TShirt as well. I can't really describe the sound, but go to their MySpace page and listen for yourself. I almost can guarantee you'll like them. Apothys' MySpace

So I close this to a two horns up. Man if this is what's in store for me everytime come to this place and with a 3 out of 3 record, I think it just very well maybe, I really really am gonna like this place. Even people from other countries, will travel, like Christian from Panama, who came last Tuesday 5000 fucking miles to see Gamma Ray. Dedication that is. So Jaxx, thanks for the memories I have and the ones I will have, and thanks to Nevermore, Apothys and Evergrey. And also to Tom Englund of Evergrey for putting up with my fanboyedness and agreeing to post for the pic when I hounded him a little too much to get out in the hall in the light to get a pic to take a much better shot as you can see!

Ok that;s it. I'm out. Good night!
