Connecticut Road Trip
Part 1

I fueled up my truck, reset the travel odometer, stocked up on moxie and licorice, and hit the road Friday, around 10am, headed south on I-95. I stopped for fifteen minutes somewhere north of Worchester to use the facilities and eat the lunch Id packed. When I walked into the rest room, it was filled with Jehovahs Witnesses, placing pamphlets on every possible surface. I just said No!, loudly, did my business, and left, keeping my eye on them the entire time. Ive heard about weird things going on at rest stops, and like, whatever, its none of my business, but no one is going to convert me into that joyless crap.
From there it was back on the road for another two hours. It was a nice drive, with smooth roads and fall foliage in full effect.
I arrived in New London around two, an hour earlier than I expected, so I took a nap in my truck. Around three, I went out and walked around the downtown area, getting a lay of the land, and looking for something to do until the show started. There was a huge comic shop on the corner. Yeah, Im a big dork like that. I looked at ugly action figures in there for about thirty minutes, then went down to the corner to wait for my friends, Dot and Katie, who I thought were going to meet up with me sometime around four or so.
Around four thirty, a Ryder truck came rumbling by, and this pale kid in a flannel shirt, do rag and baseball cap in the front seat started waving a me. It was my friend Ryan, the bass player for the distillers. He hopped out and we shot the breeze, while Andy parked the Ryder, crashing the mirror into a telephone pole in the process. I was about to offer my help in unloading the vehicle, when Fritch, Tony, and some blonde guy with a Judas Priest cross ear ring (their tour manager, I guess) emerged from the back. Ryan had to do band stuff, so I went back to the corner, and talked to some goth kids for a while.
Dot and Katie showed up around six. Just as the line was starting to form. The doors were supposed to open at seven, but we were out there until eight-forty five. A group of drunk, belligerent, metal kids formed their own line, essentially destroying the line that was already formed by puking everywhere.
Before the bands came on, Dot, Katie and I hung out with Ryan a little more on the Patio. Just after Ryan went back inside, my old friend Reverend Williams, appeared out of nowhere. I guess hes working at the New London Viagra factory these days...
