The aging hippie guy who volunteers with us went into a diabetic coma in the breakroom this evening. I had to help move him out of his chair and onto the floor. His body was stiff, eyes were wide open, but he was snoring. I guess he's alright now, but fuck, that was creepy. It didn't make an already stressful job any easier.

I used to work emergency dispatch for the campus police at our university here in Portland. The worst thing I s physically saw was a guy come into our office and clutch his chest, and just pass out half dead from a heart attack. I didn't freak out or anything and took it in stride but it's really hard to watch other people in pain.
For example, when I'm driving by a car wreck and see that people are obviously hurt, I look away. I think putting things like that on public display are just brutal. Death and pain are such personal things ya know? Watching someone you don't know or care about die, by choice, seems incredibly invasive. I mean for fucks sake... We didn't have strangers off the street in the delivery room when we were born did we? It's private. People should be allowed to pass with some dignity. Not with a bunch of 12 year old girls "ewwwing" you as your breathing your last breathe on 81st and Burnisde... So criminal.
So, how's the job been going otherwise? Tough as nails I presume.
