Being a regular at the local record store has its perks. I was just handed a free, complete, advanced copy of the new Nekromantix album, "Dead Girls Don't Cry" upon stepping into Bull Moose today, three weeks before its street release. From what I have heard so far, I like it better than "Return of the Loving Dead". Its more of a solid, consitant effort. Its faster and harder over all than "ROTLD", easy to wreck to, though not quite as metal as "Brought Back To Life" and "Curse of the Coffin".

I need to cut my devil lock down. While I can do an excellent Danzig impression, I look like Ed Grimley on crack if I put it up, and tahts just silly. I wanna look more like astroboy.

I went to see The Minus Scale and Yo La Tengo at Bates College tonight. There was an opening act, but as is typical of Bates, they mislisted the door time, so I missed them. I'm not exactly upset, seeing how the Minus Scale made me want take a power drill to my temple. I'm not a big fan of contemporary emo as it is, but when what is otherwise a very good hardcore band has a lead singer that goes between breathy whining and wailing operatically like the guy from the Darkness, I can't help but want to put them out of their misery. puke I rechristen them "Ezra's Undescended Testicle, or How An Otherwise Great Band Took Pitty on a Lame Vocalist".
Yo La Tengo were awesome though. I've never been a huge fan of theirs, but I totally respect what they do. They're great music for just drinking and chatting at parties. They're emotional without being whiney, silly and self depricating without being stupid, and beyond everything else, they're amazing musicians. I love their distorted, low tepo surf rock like jams, their weird experimental drum, bass and keyboard stuff, and their straight forward rock. My one compalint was that the venue, an old gymnasium from the late 18th century or so, lacked
a.) anykind of cushioning for the feet. My knees and feet were hurting within 20 minutes.
and b.) A bar. Its like perfect drunken hobnobbing and dancing music, but because its on campus it was totally dry. They would have been better served playing at like the Skinny or the Asylum in Portland.
