Years and years ago back when I was still in college I had this dream that I remember more vividly than dreams I've had as recently as last night. I was taking this cross country road trip with this girl I was seeing at the time and for whatever reason we were dressed to the nines, her in this semi-formal summer dress and heels and me in a pair of nice slacks and a blazer. After stopping off at a 7-11 in some picturesque suburb, we drove through a rather affluent subdivision and came by what appeared to be a college graduation party of some sort. Since we had just graduated college ourselves, my traveling companion insisted that this was our party, too. Apparently entirely unable see any sort of flaw in her logic, I simply follow this absolute vision with blonde locks inside (which is odd considering I've never really had a thing for blondes neither before nor since).

Helping ourselves to a couple of drinks, I watch absolutely dumbfounded by her ability to move in and out of conversations with complete strangers as naturally as they were her best friends. As the party thins out a little and the sun proceeds to set, we find ourselves sitting with the graduate's parents. Figuring out earlier in the evening that we weren't invited guests, instead of being angry at us brazen party crashers, they couldn't be more welcoming. They ask us where we're headed, and she tells them New York so she can pursue her dream of being a big-time news anchor. As she's telling them about our trip thus far and all the things she wants to see and do on our way and how this has been an aspiration of hers since she was a little girl, her eyes just sparkle and her smile just gleams as her whole face begins to light up. I remember in my dream, that that's when I decided that I was in love with this person.

Sure I've dated with some frequency since having this dream and thought I've even been in love once or twice, I still have yet to meet a single person that even compares to this girl my subconscious couldn't even be bothered to give a name to. I guess this is all just a really long-winded way of saying that I don't remember my dreams much lately and I think the reason why is because I'm not the same person who dreams dreams like this anymore.

And honestly? That kind of makes me sad.
