It's weird, I'm really beginning to miss San Francisco in ways that have absolutely nothing to do with my general discontent with Chicago, lately. I miss happy hour drinks in the Mission. I miss happy hour drinks in Haight/Ashbury. I miss killing hours at a time people watching with some really good friends in Dolores Park on a Saturday afternoon then moving on to the photo booth at Beauty Bar later (no matter how lame that place is). I miss movies at the Red Vic. I miss awesome shows at Cafe Du Nord, probably my favorite venue in that city. I miss Sarah, I miss Jamie, and Connell, and Callie, and Jay, and Andy, and Brian, and Eve. I don't know, they were just so much more welcoming and gracious than I ever thought they would be. Very genuine, too. There's just something about the Chicago hipster that is just very cold and aloof and superficial. A girl I used to have a thing for who just moved back from LA at around the same as I did is thriving in it, which is hardly any sort of surprise since that's her exact type of guy.

It's weird, when I first decided to move back, I didn't kid myself and say I was moving back for the people. From the start, I knew I liked my San Francisco friends better. I moved back because I absolutely love this city, it's seasons, and more than anything else, my nephew. I already know for a fact that I don't want to miss a moment of that kid growing up if I can help it. At the same time, though, I really wish I could've gathered up all my SF friends in my pocket and brought them with me here. Oh well, I'm gonna see them when I go back there for a wedding in November. That'll have to do for the time being (unless, you know, I just decide not to get on that return flight).

The following video is by a band Sarah introduced to me, a local duo in SF. It quickly became one of my favorite songs. I'm reviewing it this month for a local freebie and needless to say, I'm giving it a big thumbs up.

You just need to find places not infested with hipsters; there are still plenty of them left.
