I went to a drive-in last night!
I haven't been to one since I was in high school (in fact, it was the very same one I used to go to back when I was in high school. I was stunned it was still even there!) and it was soooooooooo much fun! It was a bit less than an hours drive outside the city, but it was TOTALLY worth it! The best parts had to be the intermission between the movies with the cartoons and the ads for the snack bar (it was like Grindhouse, except, ya know, for reals) and just walking through the parking lot. Oh, and the hot dogs, too! The hot dogs were the best! It was like the freakin' 1950s or something (except, ya know, without the racism, Korean War, and the Red Scare 'n' stuff). Granted, we went to see Oceans 13, but it was still pretty cool and George Clooney is one slick motherfucker. After awhile, me and my friends were like "Why don't we come here every summer?" To which someone answered sarcastically "Because we couldn't possibly miss whatshiswhosits band that we've seen only about 1,000,000x before!"
Oh, how true.
Oh, and I also went to a midnight showing of Nightwatch last Friday, and I gotta say, I really wasn't all that impressed. Maybe because I waited so long to go and see it, but it really didn'y live up to all the hype and I thought what they did with the subtitles was realy annoying. My favorite parts, though, had to be the opening medeival fight sequence and the truck/bus parts (not surprisingly, some of the campiest and most ridiculous parts of the movie). I remember this one episode of The OC where my favorite character, Anna (as she appeared the first season, before she showed up years later with those awful extensions), mentioned how she went to a midnight showing of the vastly underrated John Hughes classic Some Kind Of Wonderful.
Now that would've been awesome...
