SG Homework: Disaster Vacations

@CHARMAINE @MISSY & @RAMBO are seriously on a roll with these homework assignments. I'm excited to read about everyone's vacation disasters, I think I might even give a personal shout out to the person who's story I find to be the most disastrous!

Well, here is my story.

My regular vacation spot is Inhaca Island, a tiny piece of land just a 1 hour boat ride away (on calm waters) from Maputo,Mozambique, a neighboring country to South Africa. It is everything you could dream of, tropical weather, white sands and the bluest waters. At the age of 13 myself and my family were enjoying a wonderful holiday when my mom got a phone call, her grandfather had passed away and we had to get back home asap. My dad checked the weather and everything was in order for our boat ride back to Maputo.

Inhaca Island, Mozambique-my sweet escape!

Once everything was packed my family of 5 hopped onto my dads tiny rubber duck and we sailed off into the big blue ocean. Everything was cool until I noticed the swells were getting slightly bigger than usual, my dad has his skipper licence and lots of experience of being out at sea so I wasn't too stressed, so I just closed my eyes and enjoyed the breeze, it wasn't until i opened them again that I realized how much trouble we were in.

Before I knew it we were caught in a massive sea storm about half way from the mainland, my dad warned us that it was going to be a bumpy ride... lets just say that 'bumpy' was a complete understatement. I was absolutely petrified, the swells just grew bigger and bigger till eventually they were the height of 3 story buildings, we were all being thrown around this tiny boat like rag dolls. I was convinced that the boat was going to capsize, so myself and my siblings grabbed onto my mom for dear life while my dad steered the boat over the MASSIVE waves. I just closed my eyes and hid under my life vest, praying under my breath.

After 2 hours of fighting through a sea storm we finally reached Maputo, I couldn't believe that we had made it, I have never been so happy to see land in my life! Ambulances were waiting there as we arrived, it turned out that my dad sent out a distress call, all of us didnt even realize how battered and bruised we were. Luckily there were no serious injuries, just a few bumps and bruises.

I will never ever under estimate the power of the ocean again, if it wasn't for my dad that tiny boat would have capsized, I am forever grateful that my family survived an insane sea storm.

Moral of the story: Mother Nature is definitely not something to be fucked with!

To end things off on a brighter note, here are some photos of what paradise is meant to be like :D
