I was trying to think of a good Easter themed song to send out today (I have a Friday Song e-list...a lucky collection of people who get a new song from me each Friday), but the only thing that I could think of is this Magnetic Fields song "Let's Pretend We're Bunnies" -- you can imagine where that goes... It makes me laugh.

My first "Easter" memory was a rather traumatic one (and my first memory to boot.) I don't use "traumatic" lightly. But this was. It was one of those "throw your child in the deep end of the pool and eventually they will swim." I was 3 years old. It was around Easter time and they put a hula hoop in the pool and a bunch of those plastic Easter eggs inside the hoop. Then each kid had to "swim" to the hoop,
go UNDERWATER, pop up inside the hoop and get an egg, go BACK underwater (with said egg) and back to the side of the pool. Now, I don't think we were technically swimming, more like trashing and trashing is hard enough without trying to do it while one hand is a fist holding onto a plastic egg. At that age there was nothing to foreshadow my later love of all things water. I cried and cried and cried and this Very Mean woman made me do it anyway. I don't know why I was so upset by it, but I was. My next Easter memory was going to
the Easter Egg Roll on the White House Lawn (my daddy being something of a big Republican dude back in the day) -- the thing I remember most was seeing someone play music on water-filled wine glasses for the first time.

So tell me an Easter memory (that involves you):

I want to go and get my hair trimmed today...but my god...the feeling of those fingers in my hair last night is still sending shivers across my body. I want it to grow out a little...but the ends...it is so hard when it is short. Any trim at all seems to take you right back to the length you had...but if you let to grow an extra inch so that you gain a little length then you look shaggy for a few weeks. URG.

Now, share those Easter memories/stories!

Rawr! Great pictures!

A couple easters ago, I was in San Diego with the best friend, and her big brother shoved us in a convertible and drove into Mexico for sunset burritos.

When we got back stateside, we dyed Easter Eggs at midnight and then drove to his house at 3am, filled his pool with pastel balloons and left candy all over his porch.

That is a kickass story! I want to get kidnapped and go to Mexico! I was in Mexico once a few years ago and LOVED IT. We drove along the western coast...along the cliffs...played in the water...ran on the beaches. I need to go on a road trip.
