Well in a sentence, a lawful citizen of the United States who was wronged by another.
While it may seem like I'm preaching to the choir I'm willing to bet many SGs and hopefuls have had to suffer "the shame of being a hoe for a living." Or to be more accurate, bullying for no better reason than they like to take their clothes off on the internet. The attitudes around sexuality in this country are typically boiled down to one of two extremes. Either you're a prude who loves Jesus WAY too much or you're an out of control sexpot who will die in a gutter of AIDS. If that wasn't bad enough everyone is fighting as if they belong to one of these two sides with no concept of what it's like to live between them. I'd even go so far as to say many people in this country think there is NO in between and have dedicated their lives to convincing the rest of us the same.
So what does this have to do with Stormy Daniels lawsuit? As for the suit itself, nothing. What it does have to do with is the shame that is being piled on top of her because she is a porn star. Her detractors have no concept of whether her lawsuit is deserving or not. They don't give two shits that she might actually be in the right (whether or not any of us think she is, is up to the courts to decide and beyond the scope of this post) and even worse they feel that just because she's a porn star she has no right to be suing anyone over anything. To them, sex workers should not be allowed to feel wronged for anything at all because what they do is so egregiously wrong that anything bad that happens to them is their own fault and they deserve to suffer.
I wish this was simply a case of Trump supporters wanting to protect Trump but it isn't. Plenty of Liberals have bashed Stormy in the past and are only staying quiet now because she's suing Trump. Once the lawsuit is over you can bet they'll go back to shaming her all over again. When people in the sex industry come out about being abused or taken advantage of, like Ms. Daniels did they almost universally get slammed. "You suck cock for a living, shut the fuck up! or "Bitch, go back to taking three cocks in your ass. That's all you're good at." The simple fact that these men and women engage in sex acts to entertain others is looked upon with the same bile as dog fighting or cock fighting. If you do it, you're wrong and a bad person. Period. There are no "ifs," "ands," or "buts" about it.
I'm willing to bet only a very small percentage of men and women on this website have actually performed sex acts together with another in front of a camera. A slightly larger percentage have performed sex acts solo and a pretty large majority have posed nude. Despite the large differences in artistic content created we are all lumped into the same group. The outside world simply will not accept that what we do is for fun and even worse they claim that we do is harmful in some way, at the very least to ourselves. Never mind that the only real harm done is by bullies who wish to see us hurt ourselves, they insist that any kind of sexual expression is somehow dangerous to mind/body/soul.
You'll have a hard time finding another topic that is this polarizing. Anytime sex comes up it is very difficult (albeit easier these days) to find a group of people who are willing to take the middle ground. While most of us here on SG are perfectly happy talking about sex and sexual expression in a rational, matter-of-fact ways outside the bounds of this website you're going to get lambasted if you so much as show a nipple or mention the word "blowjob." While it has become somewhat acceptable for groups to talk "within their own safe spaces" it's not okay to bring this up in a public forum. Just try to ask for sex advice in a public forum, you'll get shunned and told to go away. "This isn't the place for that." Really? You were just talking about how powerful certain guns are. Why is violence okay to speak about but sex isn't? I once asked a website that publishes web comics what kind of content they allow and I was literally told that any kind of graphic imagry was fine as long as it wasn't sexually explicit. "We've shown graphic images of someone's head being blown apart by a shotgun but you can't show nudity. Nipples maybe but even then we would have to discuss it first."
What?
The shame Stormy Daniels is now facing from the public is nothing new to her which is probably why she's dealing with it so well. And if I may be quite frank that's a sad commentary in and of itself. While we've made great strides in changing attitudes about sex and sexual expression this lawsuit shows just how far we really have to go. We need to keep up the pressure on those who want us to stay behind closed bedroom doors. Sex is a fact of life and failing to understand it's nuances can cost you your life. That's not something to be ashamed of. That's something that needs to be spoken about and understood, in all of it's forms.
