No actually, I don't. I am that kind of asshole.

So it's now been three weeks since Star Wars: The Force Awakens came out and the hate is already gaining full steam. Cries about the movie being nothing more than a rehashed Episode IV have dominated the fandom ever since Dec. 18 at 12:01am (in the U.S.). Not only that but endless bitching about Kylo Ren being way too emo has also been gaining traction at an all too rapid pace. Add in never ending hate about Starkiller Base/Death Star III and I can pretty much proclaim that I was right at this point. There is, however, something I was very wrong about and that makes me very, very glad.

Reasonable fans (a.k.a. grown adults) are fighting back.

Sick and tired of being slammed for liking the prequel trilogies by self-proclaimed "true fans" new Star Wars fans are fighting back with lots of love for the new movie. Its the war for Star Wars and the haters are loosing. BADLY.

Let's face facts, the classic trilogy is pretty dated at this point. In reality the movies just aren't aging that well. New fans aren't seeing them with the same kind of awe and emotion that we did when we were their age. Episode VII is an action packed thrill ride just like it's now ancient parent movies, it's non stop and it is so much fun. Granted it doesn't elicit the same kinds of feelings that the classic trilogy could in us but so what? These movies weren't made for us, they were made for a new generation of fans to enjoy and they are. Rey, Finn, Poe and Kylo Ren are all great characters that the new fans are embracing with all the love that we have for Han, Luke, Leia and Darth Vader and that is FUCKING AWESOME. This is their trilogy, one that they can finally call their own. No more are young people looking at Star Wars as "those movies that my dad really likes." They are seeing Rey, Finn and Poe as heroes that they can relate to and that's never a bad thing.

I knew the classic fandom would find bullshit reasons to hate the new movie but I was totally caught off guard by the new fandom's refusal to just lie down and take it. It finally feels good to be a Star Wars fan again. :)
