SG Homework: What was the scariest thing that ever happened to you?

@Rambo, @Missy, and whoever else in charge of the SG homework, my sincerest apologies (Sorry, not sorry) for once again hijacking the homework this week (Get over it. :P ) but I just could not resist once again.

The scariest thing that ever happened to me was in the Navy. For those that don't know in the Navy I worked as a Machinist's Mate for just shy of six years. On my second ship the U.S.S. Wasp we were out to sea holding inspection drills. At the time my station was on MM Lower Level which meant I was on the bottom deck of the engine room watching the main engine and turbine driven electrical generators. Basically, steam goes into these things and condenses into water, my job was to watch over the parts that made and moved the water. From my station the water would then enter the boiler to be turned back into steam, rinse repeat.

So going back to the drills. The higher ups wanted to run a drill where the automatic fuel valve leading to the boiler stopped working and had to be operated manually. No big deal, pretty easy drill. Unless of course you switch back to the automatic fuel valve WITHOUT re-initializing it. As a result more fuel was being slammed into the boiler than it could handle. As a result the boiler began rumbling and shaking the entire engine room. As a result the boiler began TO EXPAND.

Obviously the situation worked out because I'm here typing this and there are picture of my dick in one of my folders but at that moment it became very clear to me my continued existence was very much in doubt. There was nothing I could do but watch, wait and hope. Seconds passed by in what felt like hours. One of the inspectors (a close shipmate of mine mind you) ran my ass over trying to run away. I can laugh about it now but I was pretty pissed at the time.

Thankfully nothing came of it except for a lot of yelling and lectures about following proper procedures. The boiler didn't suffer any damage and we kept steaming along fat dumb and very happy we weren't DEAD.
