For those not in the know I had knee surgery yesterday and they sent me home with something called Percocet. I've heard of it before in all the usual media channels but all I ever actually heard was that it was a painkiller and a narcotic. The thing I heard most often though was that a lot of people were getting addicted to it.
I can't possibly see how.
I made the mistake of taking two on an empty stomach and my brain is still reeling. I was light headed, my thoughts were this way and that and I just about fell asleep talking to my friend on the phone. When I finally laid down to try and ride this high out the imagery flashing through my brain was chaotic to say the least. At one point I imagined an Asari in full steampunk garb and tried to focus on it only to have the image instantly fly away to be replaced by some voice that sounded like it was straight out of a commercial for American Football or NASCAR racing. I finally did fall asleep for about an hour and woke up just a few minutes before writing this. It was probably one of the worst experiences I've ever had with drugs of any kind.
Now before you assume I'm jumping on the "I hate druggies" band wagon (I couldn't fit it was too full of ultra right wing Republicans) this was just a bad experience for ME. I'm pretty sure taking two Percocet (the prescription was for one or two as needed and boy was there a need!) on an empty stomach was probably a bad idea. But also I know me, my brain is always on. I'm always thinking of something be it cosplay, video games, news items, webcomic stories both old and new something is always going through my brain all the time. Being high only magnified that to the N'th degree and it's bad enough on regular days. I was struggling to keep a grip on my emotions and stay focused on any one thing no matter what it was but I couldn't and that bothered me sooooo bad.
I'm not going to waste your time giving you advice one way or the other about taking drugs, that's not my thing but I did feel it was important to share my experience. Who knows? maybe someone out there can give me some helpful advice about how to avoid having such a bad experience again. I'm in A LOT of pain but I'm not doing myself or anyone else any favors by going through bad trips like that.
