I'm sure most of you don't know that I am in love, love, love with online racing. Not the smash em up public racing mind you but the online sanctioned racing you get at websites like Race2play or iRacing. It really gets the blood pumping but up until recently I've been pretty scared to race online.
What kept getting in my way was the feeling that I would suck so bad no one would let me race anymore. How embarrassing would that be? Turns out I don't suck that bad. In fact NO ONE sucks that bad. In order to get banned from online racing you have to do something pretty malicious to other drivers and even then you can often times get back in a long wait. After a couple of online races over the last couple of months I've realized just how silly my fears were. This has been great because now I can really put my head down and focus on my technique and not worry so much about whether or not I'm going to piss someone off.
So what are my racing sims of choice? If you guessed Gran Turismo or Forza you'd be wrong. Both are great sims for what they are but for my money its the all out, absolute realism offered by RFactor and the SIMBIN lineup of racing games (Rcaeroom Online, Race07 and all the various add-ons and GTR2). To me nothing beats watching a real race and then taking to the same track in the same cars in cyber space and battling it out with 15-20 other drivers. Say what you want about PvP MMO"s or multiplayer modes when it comes to true multiplayer gaming racing is where its at for my money!
