Since only 5,000 people have asked so far I thought about waiting untill next week to post about the camping trip but I changed my mind so here goes.
This was our campsite once we got it all set up on Saturday. Quaint as it was it was also rather spacious. I wasn't expecting as much room for our stuff but it was a welcome site once we got to it. The drive up there was scenic but long and I had to keep up the pace on a windy mountain road thanks to some tailgating jackass behind me in a beat up Honda Accord but I wasn't about to let that sour our mood for the first day. It was a half day really, we got there about 1:00pm on Saturday and starting setting up as soon as we could. It took a lot less time than we both thought but before too long we were ready to start exploring so we headed out to the river which was literally a stone's throw away from the site.
Apparently a lot of folks threw stones becase as you can see the river was full of them! lol. Just kidding. This is Grizzly Creek which was rather low but that was mainly because of the time of year. There was plenty of evidence that the water level rose quite a bit but I really couldn't tell how high, at the time we were there there were plenty of wading areas and some spots that were so shallow you could cross the river without getting your feet wet. We tried to get some good pictures of the local wildlife but most of the little fuckers wouldn't sit still long enough. By the time I did get a photo or two they turned out kind of blurry. I'll post those later if I can clean them up enough.
Along the river we mainly saw frogs and water skimmers but at night the bats came out and buzzed us a few times. They were a lot smaller than I thought and quite a bit braver than the birds. We couldn't get near those but we heard plenty of them. Jays and ravens mostly but we did see one Kestrel which was really cool. Some really small fish were in the river two going after the water skimmers. While we were lounging on a huge rock that was on the side of the river we flushed out four small rabbits. They scared the shit out of Phoenixgirl and my dumbass actually tried to go after them but one after the other kept flashing by so fast I couldn't tell which way they went. In the end all I got to see was streaks of black fur blasting into the udnerbrush but one of them went slow enough I could tell it was a rabbit. We also saw a few deer by the river bank but again stupid me made too much noise and they ran off before we could get our cameras out so no pics of those either. I did get some great shots of this gorgeous wood nymph though;
Ain't she pretty? Make sure you go tell her while you're at it!
More to come but suffice it to say we had the most awesome time I've ever had. Enjoy the teasers, I'll post more pictures as the days go along but I'm re-sizing them and I took over 240! A lot of pics to sift through but check back often for all the juicy details!
