Well this year has started off with a massive kick in the balls, I found out today that my boss can no longer afford to pay me a wage. But I have been asked to continue to work (which i agreed to), as I am not qualified (I am an apprentice) I have no real other alternative to continue to work for no money. Also if I leave the company now I will lose my chance to get qualified. As there are a major lack of apprenticeships out there and as I am 25 my age doesn't help as most companies would rather take on a 16 year old and pay them peanuts than pay me minimum wage. I know this is discrimination but I have actually been told this in job interviews on the quiet.
Another apprentice has been laid off and a virtually qualified apprentice (he will be qualified at the end of the month) has got a week of work left and then he is finishing. The guy who is virtually qualified has taught me alot and I could always go to him for advise on jobs I had to do, so it will be disappointing to see him go.
I have now got to try to find a way to raise some cash by either getting a weekend job or selling my body (joke). I could sell my body at weekends

I now have to finish off my portfolio off as soon as possible to try and get qualified, hoping the company doesn't go under before I finish. But even when I finish my portfolio I have to do my trade test which I can't see myself passing at the moment. I really enjoy my job, I know every job has it's flaws but these don't bother me that much.
And there was me thinking my life was turning round for the better.
