I've been busy baking like a mad man. This keto diet I'm on has really been a game changer in mental stability. When it's working right (which sometimes it doesn't), I feel like a normal person. Stable. So, to make this diet more sustainable and planning for the long term, I'm baking a ton so that the harsh realities of the diet don't sink its grip in too tight. It's the medical version to try to attain something called "neural cushioning". It's exactly what it sounds like. Through experimenting with it, I've found that it's cumulative, so mild "cheat days" don't affect me after several months of being on the diet. But, if I stop going at it as extreme as I am (5% carb 85% fat 15% protein), eventually, I lose that cushioning and I start to lose function as I dip deeper into severe depression. I was getting close there last month.
I'm at a full recovery now. I've even been experimenting with mild alcohol consumption, which I quit a year ago after learning that it can trigger episodes. I think it's okay, as long as it's a single glass, not that I'm getting drunk.
