15 bucks and hour with medical and dental is, as far as i know, really good around here. Most of the "straight jobs" I've applied for or worked have paid just barely above minimum wage, with no benefits. Lots of work is part-time, so they can get away with not extending benefits.
Now, to be honest, I know most of this through friends. I'm an academic and have been in university for a long time, so I've got little connection to the real world (heh).
