Sooooo....
Still looking for music and such for "As You Like It"
But in other news about this project is last Fall it started out as a Bollywood incarnation - and that didn't get past... so I altered it, well, a lot, to try to gain approval of the student group who might produce it and it was shifted into Bollywood/Steampunk, which has quickly shifted into "Firefly" (since most people in the group were really intimidated by both terms "Bollywood" and "Steampunk" and my best frame of reference was the east/west, futuristic/modern/classic for what I was going for... except with super up the number of song and dance numbers.)
SO now that I'm planning for a "Firefly" incarnation of "As You Like It" I'm just wanna say - it's been a lot of fun preparing the new proposal plans - simply because I got to make "Blue Sun" stencils, Wanted posters, Jayne Cobb hats and reference Shakespearean characters to the characters in the show. AND I still got to keep in my big Indian themed dance number (which I KNOW it should be Chinese, but whatever, I wanted to keep some Bollywood in there somewhere dammit!).
What's all this storytelling about?
1) If you happen to want a Jayne hat or Blue Sun shirt - I now have a million materials to make you something.
2) If you could vote on this project, I would ask you to do that, but since you can't - just cross your fingers for me okay?
3) If you have any suggestions that are absolute musts to add to this project - either on the geeky Shakespeare side or the nerdy "Firefly" side, let me know. I'd love to add "inside jokes" to the visual production/auditory production of the show.
ANYWAY - that's all for now. I'm going back to cutting out stencils and prepping the production by editing down the play, creating character descriptions and documenting the french scenes for rehearsal planning. Yes, I know, I'm a little theatre nerd.
I figure this is my year of theatre, let's just cram it all in before I can get accepted into grad school to study brains, creativity and mental illness. I mean I love mental illness - I just don't have legal access to fMRIs and EKGs, so theatre will have to be my hobby for now.
PS: Also, if you can't tell from the abnormal side of rambling in this post - I'm on a new weight loss regimen that includes stimulants so I can audition for "Gypsy" in October (I'm HOPING to lose 50-60 lbs, but we'll see, whatever happens, happens, I just want to do it healthily). I feel SUPER energized and awake. I think the exercise part of this is also helping with my abnormal speed and peppiness.

On the music front, while mowing the lawn today (Yup, mowing the lawn) I was listening to Michael Nesmith's Magnetic South, and it occurred to me it's pretty Firefly/Serenity-esque music for the most part. You might check it out. And yes, that's Michael Nesmith the same guy who played in The Monkees. I'd check out "Little Red Rider" and "Mama Nantucket" in particular, although I get a real kick out of "Calico Girlfriend Samba." My favorite of his solo work, however, has to be "Light" off of Infinite Rider on the Big Dogma. It's not very Firefly, but it's a little spacey.
