We did a small informal wedding too. I prevented the drama by putting the fear of God into my family. I just said "this is MY wedding. It's about me and my husband loving each other so much we want to spend the rest of our lives together. It is NOT about your problems with my mom, or Bush, or anything else. If you can't behave, I will kick you out. Immediately." It seemed to work. Maybe try it on your dad?
