Wow, thanks for the quick reply. But it's OK now.
Ended up spending 12 hours straight trying to reinstall WinXP. My computer was acting bizarre we ended up using some hacker tools to essentially try and wipe the C: partition clean. but my friend got it mixed up and wiped my D: drive clean instead. I lost 20 Gigs of movies.
Oh well.
SO I partitioned the D: drive into D: and E:, where E: will be be my open exchange and download folder, so I can avoid causing too much fragmentation and infection of my other much large C: and D: drives. It's good practice.
Finally Win XP setup registered correctly and now everything is A-OK. There was some severe malfunction in the network card driver or something. Something definitely windows...
It's nice to have a fast breezy Win XP with no additional resource-sucking apps and add-ons...
