Well...my first show is in the books and it went very well!!
I was scheduled to go on at 8am with my first talk break coming at 8:03am. I actually arrived at the studio at about 7:45am. The system we have that programs and plays the songs was running about 20 minutes ahead of schedule, so the song that was supposed to play after my first talk break was already on. Apparently, this is normal. So I threw about 5 or 6 songs in to fill some time and got ready for my on-air debut. All in all, everything went pretty smoothly. I managed to (mostly) stay on time. I had prepared some stories that I wanted to talk about the night before on some of my talk breaks and used most of them. I didn't stumble over my words really. No crutch-phrases. No dead-air. No major mishaps. My program director said I sounded like I had prepared and told me to keep up the good work. Sweet!!! Hypersage listened and I got a thumbs up from him too. That means a lot to me. So I was pretty happy.
After the show I had some time to kill before class so, after I ate lunch, I hit the studio to record and produce my promo spot that will air all week plugging my show. It took me about a half an hour and came out good. So...now I wait again until next week. If anyone wants to listen, it's at this link. I'm on every Wednesday from 8am to noon eastern time. It was a lot of fun.
We started the TV portion of our class this week. The class was split into 2 groups and we each have to create and produce a 10 minute newscast. I was tapped to be the floor director for my group which makes me the assistant to the main director/technical director. I'll be on the newsroom floor giving cues to the talent and camera people that ultimately come from the control room. It should be fun, but I'd honestly rather be doing more with radio. I think after our newscast is due (which is the 2nd week in January) we move to radio commercials, then TV commercials, music videos, and a 30 minute newscast.
